// The history of Larpeiras

A sweet rooted in Galicia

The Galician larpeira was born from the ancient sweet buns made with butter and anise in different areas of Galicia. Over time, the pastry cream and anise syrup that make it so special today were gradually added.It is said that around 1927, in a pastry shop in Cambre, the famous diamond-shaped cuts began to be made in the dough — a hallmark that gives it its unique appearance and helps distribute the cream more evenly. Since then, this dessert has become a true classic at our celebrations."

The sweet bun of Galician celebration

The Larpeira is one of the sweetest treasures of traditional Galician pastry. Originally from rural areas, this sweet bread was traditionally made for special celebrations, patron saint festivals, and important family events.

Its name comes from the Galician word larpeira, referring to its fluffy texture and slightly sweet flavour. What sets our Larpeira apart is the use of local butter and free-range eggs, which give it that characteristic golden colour and a tender, aromatic crumb.

At Panadería Ana we respect the traditional recipe but add our personal touch: a subtle hint of anisette that enhances its aroma without altering its traditional essence.
